Fire Starting Carabiner
When imagining a multi-tool, most people immediately think Swiss Army Knife or Leatherman. The Firebiner is much different but just as cool. The two main tools, a carabiner and the Everspark fire wheel, were merged to create the name. The carabiner can be clipped to your hiking pack and is rated to carry 50 pounds of gear. The Spring loaded wire gate to the carabiner does not lock, but has a nice resistance to it, so your gear should be safe and not slip out. The carabiner itself feels durable and quality made. It is made out of a titanium coated stainless steel, which is strong, reliable and corrosion resistant. However, do not use the carabiner for climbing, as it is not meant to hold people.
In my opinion, the Everspark fire wheel is what makes the Firebiner stand out. This is what allows the Firebiner to throw sparks and start fires – making it a true survival tool. Much like a butane lighter yet without the gas, the spark wheel is simple to use. Just hold in your hand and spin the wheel with your thumb. When done quickly, lots of hot sparks fly out giving you a perfect fire starting EDC. The Firebiner also comes with the ability to replace the spring loading flint rods when they run out. Each Firebiner comes with two small replacement ferro rods for when this happens. My only complaint regarding this feature it is a little awkward and uncomfortable when holding in your and trying to get a spark, but I don’t plan on holding like that too much or for too long, so not a big deal.
The Firebiner is not just meant for hanging gear and starting fires. There is a screw driver tip, bottle opener, protected utility blade and holes to hang your keys from. So far,of these features the bottle opener has received the most use from me – but I am glad to know I will have the ability to cut my paracord when needed, or even my seatbelt in a serious emergency.
The Firebiner is a cool piece of gear with serious survival features. It is useful, light weight and durable. Plus, you can never have enough fire starters or carabiners in my opinion. I keep mine clipped to my most used day pack and has been perfect for attaching my water bottle to the bag. Plus, its not expensive for what you get.
